Why I Voted for Obama - again

Dear Friends,

Obama has done many things that I don't agree with and even make me angry and frightened. He has been a less that perfect President, but I think it is past time that we stand up and support him. I'm certain that even if you don't particularly like what Obama has done you'll agree that he's far better than the Republican alternative. I'm frightened when I hear that many who voted for Obama will either be sitting out this next Presidential election, or switching to vote for Romney and Paul as a way of protesting. I am scared of repeating the nightmare of 2000 when the vote was close enough that George W and friends could steal the election.

See the links at the end of this email that assess some of the incredible successes of the Obama administration. For example, although Obama-care is less than perfect, it is the first success, after five presidents over a century failed to create universal health insurance. He got us out of Iraq (a war that Bush lied about to have an excuse to invade).

Perhaps the most important thing to consider is that 3 Justices of the Supreme Court are possibly retiring in the next 4 years. Who do you want to appoint the people who will be interpreting the Constitution, and telling us what is legal? Do you want the Court to continue to give more power to wealthy corporations, and less to the common people?

My heart and mind tell me that it is very important to become vocal in support of Barack Obama's election to a second term. We all need to do this however we can – we need to be loud, and we need to do it now. We need to vote, to vote for Barack, and to vote for other Democrats who are running for office.

The Monday, September 10, 2012 New York Times says Obama's chance of victory would be an amazing 91% if everyone who's registered actually votes this year. The key is getting voters to the polls. { fivethirtyeight.blogs.nytimes.com/2012/09/06/obama-would-be-big-favorite-with-fired-up-base/ }. The “undecided” are important, but it is mostly about getting all who are already registered as Democrats to turn out and vote.

I'm asking each one of you to send out a similar email (feel free to copy or forward this one) to people that you know - with a request to vote for Obama! Reaching people who don't know each other will help get the message cast more widely- especially send it to people who live in the “battleground states”. These include: Florida, Ohio, Virginia, Colorado, Wisconsin, Iowa and New Hampshire. Equally important are the "leaning states": Michigan, Pennsylvania, Minnesota, Nevada, New Mexico and Maine.

One major factor in the last Presidential election was the very large number of people who voted - most people don't vote at all. We need a large turn out of voters to vote for Obama in 2012. If we each send this email out to only five people, in 11 rounds we'd potentially get to 244,140,625 people! I'm not sure what the “tipping point” is, but it is quickly reached!

Please pass this on. Send it to your “Facebook Friends” - ask them to vote for Obama. Vote for Obama, get others to vote for Obama, and while you are at it vote for Democrats in the other elections too.

Please don't let this opportunity pass. Thanks for caring. May we all peacefully work together to make a better world so that fewer will suffer.

Love and blessings,
