Gordon Clay here. You've seen it in hundreds of movies. The good guy has his gun on the bad guy. The bad guy has his gun on someone the good guy loves. The bad guy says, "Drop your gun or I'll kill her." After a long pause, the good guy drops his gun hoping he can trust the bad guy. But the bad guy is the bad guy and does what he does.

It feels like the movies but it's the real world now.

Quote "Republicans have pleaded with Democrats to put aside their wish-list to focus on the things Americans want us to focus on," said Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell. Translation: 42 Senate Republicans have signed a letter to Democrats saying, in part, "...we cannot agree to prioritize any matters above the critical issues of funding the government and preventing a job-killing tax hike." It didn't take them long to focus on what's good for the wealthy and their constituents - those corporations that gave them millions to win what they won in this last election.

But they've neglected to demonstrate how the tax cut will be funded without cutting medicare and social security and education and all those "socialist" programs. What would Jesus do?

The Republicans have blocked an extention of unemployment benefits for 2 million Americans basically because it couldn't be shown how it would be funded and telling those out of work, "You won't get yours until we get ours, and then there's no guarantee we're going to let you get yours. Have a nice holiday."

The Republicans have also blocked the child nutrition bill to combat childhood obesity. But the "fat cats" want theirs first.

I hope the Democrats don't give-in and drop their gun. We already know the unhappy ending if they do.

You can call a dog a cat, it still can't purr.
