Title: Reader's Theater Comes to Brookings

Gordon Clay here. Live Reader's Theater Comes to Brookings for the First Friday Salon next Friday, November 2 at 6pm at the Chetco Public Library.

TheCitizensWhoCare.org will present Port Orford Theatre 101 troupe's original performance called "Suffrage Succotash, a history of voting in America" This is an original, partial history of voting rights in the United States, from the early colonies to state-by-state rules to struggles of specific groups of people to gain the right to vote; African Americans, women, Native Americans, eighteen year-olds, etc.

Theatre 101 consider themselves to be a theatrical troupe, as opposed to a community theatre and most roles are filled by invitation. They wrote Suffrage Succotash because this year is an election year. It was their intent to do something relevant and topical, without taking a political position.

Ben Franklin is the host for the evening and will introduce eight different characters, all of them real historical figures, who outline their role in the various suffrage movements.

The performance begins with the writing of the Constitution and what was, and was not, included regarding voting, and explores each change affecting suffrage in America through the 26th Amendment. It is educational, emotional, interesting and packed with information. An open discussion with the cast will follow the performance. Admission is free and donations are welcome for Theatre 101 expenses. Join us for this very unique theatrical experience next Friday at 6pm
