"The Color of Fear - 2: Walking Each Other Home"

Gordon Clay here. On May 2nd at the First Friday Salon, we will be showing "The Color of Fear - 2: Walking Each Other Home" at 6pm at the Chetco Public Library

The Color of Fear is an insightful, groundbreaking film about the state of race relations in America as seen through the eyes of eight North American men of Asian, European, Latino and African descent. In a series of intelligent, emotional and dramatic confrontations the men reveal the pain and scars that racism has caused them. This diversity makes the discussion non-biased and very heated at times.

In this new sequel, the European American men have added opportunities to express how they felt when the men of color were angry, why they were afraid, and what they discovered about themselves and each other as men of European descent.

What emerges is a deeper sense of understanding and trust. This is the dialogue most of us fear, but hope will happen sometime in our lifetime.

"First Friday Salon" is a free evening to see and talk about documentaries that, most likely, would never show in the area. The series is sponsored by TheCitizensWhoCare.org whose main purpose is to "Give you something to think about." So, for this venue we are looking to create a discussion similar to the one in the film. It’s important that people from all backgrounds, opinions and views on race participate in this mature, honest, nonviolent discussion that will follow the film.

The movie starts promptly at 6pm with discussion to follow on the First Friday of every month at the wheelchair accessible Chetco Community Public Library, 405 Alder St., Brookings
