Could you spare a dollar, mister?

Gordon Clay here. "Could you spare a dollar, mister?" Yep, that's all it 'll take for over half of all Curry County Households. Just a dollar a day to keep Salem away.

You probably invest more than that each day on a cup of coffee, soft drink, beer, or cigarette. So what might you forgo to keep our schools teaching, access to books and computers in our libraries, keep our ports open, and give us time to figure out how to take care of ourselves in the future rather than depending on big government handouts?

First, go to the Internet to co.curry.or.us, type in the assessed value of your home from your tax statement, and you'll see what the increase from Measure 8-71 will be: total, monthly or daily. Then go to TheCitizensWhoCare.org/dollaraday.html and see what you might comfortably forgo to meet that obligation. See how easy it could be and you might just get healthier during the process.

It appears that the advocates of home rule are willing to give up that right to save a Dollar-A-Day, when, in reality, if Measure 8-71 doesn't pass, chances are they'll be paying a whole lot more.

You think the nation's debt is a terrible thing to leave our children. What about a crumbling county. But if that happens, they have the option to stay or leave. And more and more are taking that option because they don't see the citizens of Curry County stepping up to get this County back on track. It's time to step up, Curry County. Vote Yes on 8-71.
