Position Statement "To make sure all students desiring a public education are safe and that they are all in an environment where they’re comfortable and they can learn,'”

Ever since some the JV and High School Girl's Basketball Team members and their parents were offered a chance to have a private session with the School Board to discuss their grievance with, primarily, two coaches, and then they were denied that meeting and the board went into the protection mode that ended in over a year of retribution against the girls and an end to the complaint that denied any member of the board and any member of the school (the superintendent, principal, athletic director, and two male coaches) who appeared in ODE's 26 page report, had any wrong doing. (See the rsults.)Since the results are confidential, the only thing we can figure is that hush money was paid. A major result, however, is that since that time, many students who have been abused by the system, haven't filed a complaint because they would rather endure the abuse than suffer from the complaint system. They've seen, way too often, what happens to the whistle-blower.

We're here, as private citizens, to read about or listen to a student/parent complaint, under 100% confidentiality, until such time as the complainant may want to proceed in the complaint process, and assist in that process, if so desired.

Testimony - From families who have moved out of Brookings, and most who have moved out of Oregon, because their student didn't feel safe to get an education in the Brookings-Harbor School System. Note: more to come.

Potential Solutions (how to get started)

1. Read this letter to the editor concerning the Senior Prank of the Purge on May 15, 2018.
2, Tell us about what happened between your child in the Brookings-Harbor school system in this situation or any other.

a. If you want 100% confidentiality, don't include your name or email.

b. If you want us to know so we can connect your situation with others in the community, or want to know how best to navigate the complaint process, or want support in a potential complaint process, but still want it to be kept 100% confidential, include your name and email and we commit to keep the information 100% confidential.

c. At any time that you want to go public, in the county, in Salem, etc., give us your contact information and let's proceed.

Complainant Toolkit

Paper Trail. The most important thing is to start a paper trail at the onset of the first negative experience. Record the date, time, place, individuals involved and as much detail about the incident as possible including potential witnesses. An ideal way to keep this information is in a journal or a Spiral Bound Carbonless Phone Message Book which keeps incidences in chronologically order.

Audio trail. The second most important thing is to tape record every phone and face-to-face meeting with anyone connected to the situation, but especially those connected with the school. I believe the student has the right to have an ally (parent, guardian, adult friend, counselor, therapist, etc.) present in any meeting. I know that past situations have seen the administrator claim they can interigate the whistle-blower without anyone present and have threatened to suspend a student if they don't talk without another adult present, but I'm not sure about this. It would seem appropriate since the administrator is usually in a power-over situation and can intimidate the whistle-blower in private and intimidate them in other circumstances within the school grounds. I know, for a fact, that this has happened before. Especially in situatoins where the complaint was against an employee of the school district.

School Policies and Procedure. Know what you are dealing with. A good place to start is here.

Know that it is possible to file an anonymous complaint.

Help Us: History of use in the Brookings-Harbor School District

We want to find out the first usage of the term "No blood, no foul" by a teacher, coach or administrator in the Brookings-Harbor School District and the last time you heard it. It would be great to know the name but at least the position of the adult, the approximate date, place, and who it was said to. Contact Us
